ZENCO CASE｜Intercontinetal Chongqing Raffles City

On the occasion of this 30th anniversary, let's take a look back at InterContinental Chongqing Raffles City, which was jointly built by ZENCO CASA and CapitaLand.

A Bright Pearl at the Top of the Mountain City

Raffles City Chongqing is a city landmark complex developed by CapitaLand Group, located at the leading position of Chongqing Chaotianmen Square, which is not only a landmark building and city card of Chongqing, but also a witness that Chongqing and Singapore are international friendly cities.

With a total investment of RMB 21.1 billion and a gross floor area of more than 800,000 square metres, Raffles City Chongqing is designed in the same vein as Singapore's Marina Bay Sands Hotel by internationally renowned architect Moses Safdie, comprising eight towers and a crystal gallery, symbolising the sailboats that set sail on Chaotianmen Square.

InterContinental Raffles City is located at the top of the sail, representing the spirit of Chongqing, which has been built up over the past thousand years, with a beautiful view of the Yangtze River and Jialing River, and a panoramic view of the mountainous city, symbolising Chongqing's ‘Riding the wind and breaking the waves, sailing and setting sail’.

A Sailing Ship on the River

The interior design of InterContinental Raffles City was created by CL3 Architects in a style that continues the design and nautical aesthetics of the building's exterior.

Founded in 1992, CL3 Architects is an innovative architectural and interior design firm. Headquartered in Hong Kong, CL3 has offices in Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai. CL3's design bridges the gap between architecture and art, distilling a truly international spirit into design. CL3's unique and distinguished oriental aesthetics are modernised and presented in every design. The professional leadership and insights of renowned artist and architect, Mr Lam Wai Yee, have led the CL3 team to become increasingly professional and committed to excellence.

The classic Intercontinental Gold and Elegant White colours, combined with Chongqing's mountains, water, bridges and boats, intertwine the streamlined features with traditional craftsmanship patterns to create a unique ‘sailing in the river’ experience for guests.

The perfect combination of practicality and aesthetics

The indoor furniture of InterContinental Raffles Chongqing is crafted by Zhan Cheng Furniture, which not only blends traditional and modern elements in its design, but also demonstrates the highest degree of sophistication in its materials and craftsmanship.

The interior design of InterContinental Raffles Chongqing was unique at the time as it kept pace with the pulse of the times. Zhancheng Furniture was not afraid of the challenge and achieved perfect delivery with excellent craftsmanship.

In fact, during the course of the project, the Zhancheng team worked meticulously to ensure that the furniture complemented the cutting-edge design. This process not only made the furniture perfect and set a new benchmark in the industry, but also demonstrated Zhancheng's craftsmanship and strength in pursuing excellence and striving for perfection.

In addition, as the second major project developed by CapitaLand in Chongqing Raffles City Plaza, Ascott Raffles City Chongqing Serviced Apartments did not fail to live up to people's expectations. Located 250 metres above Raffles City, Ascott Raffles City Chongqing is located in the sky, far from the sea of people, and a romantic and fairy-like atmosphere is born when you step into the flats.
